How's Your Smile Protection? Using Mouthguards

Content Review Date: November 2003

Description

Every year, throughout the province, mouth injuries occur during sports activities. Being hit on the lower jaw can cause a concussion.

How Can I Protect My Teeth?

Wearing a mouthguard is a good way to protect your teeth. Mouthguards work like shock absorbers and can reduce painful and costly injuries.

How Can I Get A Mouthguard?

It is best if your dentist makes a special mouthguard just for you. This is important since no two sets of teeth are the same. You can even get mouthguards in neon colours! And, like a new pair of running shoes, mouthguards take 1 to 2 weeks to break in and feel comfortable.

If you play sports of any kind, ask your dentist about a mouthguard. Your teeth will thank you!
